HT Puff Heat Transfer Vinyl

HT Puff vinyl rises into a soft, raised 3D texture when heat is applied — an authentic retro look without embroidery. Use it for uniform numbers for baseball, soccer and basketball, or for novelty and fashion shirts with puffy letters, clouds and shapes.

HT-Puff press guide

These settings are for standard HT-Puff. Other puff types can differ, so use the settings on each product page, and test-press before a full job.

  • Temperature, pressure and time: 300–310°F (148–154°C), medium pressure, 8–10 seconds. Preheat the garment for 2–3 seconds and peel the carrier hot.
  • Cutting: cut on the hot melt layer (the glossy side) with a 45° blade.
  • Thickness: about 130–140 microns before pressing and 450–500 microns after the vinyl puffs.
  • Fabrics: cotton, uncoated polyester and cotton-polyester blends. Not for nylon.
  • Care: wait 24 hours before the first wash, machine wash cold with mild detergent, dry on the normal dryer setting, and do not dry clean.

Design tips

  • Gaps of 2 mm or less disappear when the puff activates, so keep fine details and tight spacing larger.
  • Puff vinyl colors turn lighter once puffed.
  • Press smoothly on a flat surface; wrinkles or indentations can show if the vinyl does not press down evenly.

Frequently asked questions

How does puff vinyl work?

The vinyl expands and rises when heat is applied, giving cut letters and shapes a three-dimensional, soft texture.

What cutter settings should I use?

For HT-Puff, the product page lists a 45° blade at 8–9 force on a Graphtec or 80–90 force on a Roland GS. Settings vary with blade condition and machine age, so always do a test cut first.

What is HT-Printable Puff?

It is a puff vinyl made for print-and-cut projects, available in 13.33" and 20" widths as rolls and sheets.

Which fabrics can I use?

HT-Puff applies to cotton, uncoated polyester and cotton-polyester blends, excluding nylon.
